This is Water?

Here’s something I’ve been wondering: How did Little Brown manage to take David Foster Wallace’s commencement speech, which is at most 10-20 pages, and turn it into a 120 page book? A big font size can only get you so far, I figured. They must have added some additional material. Perhaps “Federer as Religious Experience”, which hasn’t been collected anywhere yet. Or maybe a bit from the forthcoming The Pale King, which covers the same ground as the commencement speech.

I clearly wasn’t creative enough. First, it’s a tiny, tiny book. And the font size is indeed huge. But the real secret of the book, the real way they made it stretch to 120 pages?

They printed each sentence on a different page.

Literally.

Each sentence.
